More than 470 GameStop stores closing in U.S. this month
GameStop will close over 470 stores across 43 states, continuing a trend after shuttering 590 stores last fiscal year, impacting many malls and shopping centers nationwide.
On Monday, January 19, 2026, GameStop said it is closing more than 470 stores nationwide in January 2026, with local updates and lists published mid-month.
A company filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said GameStop plans to close a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025 after closing 590 stores last year.
The company hasn't published a complete list, but the GameStop website already lists hundreds of locations as closed, and a GameStop spokesperson did not respond to confirmation requests.
The closures span 43 states, affecting malls and shopping centers nationwide, with around 40 impacted stores in Florida and Georgia including Jacksonville's Lem Turner Road and Palatka's GameStop on South Moody Road already closed.
Market watchers note that GameStop shares are weaker after last May when Keith Gill, influential investor known as 'Roaring Kitty,' reappeared online to back the stock, having helped spark the 2021 surge above $120.
