Suspect in Case of Montreal Woman Murdered During Work Video Call Has Died in Prison
The coroner is investigating the death of the accused, whose trial had been pending in the killing of a Canada Revenue Agency employee.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, The Quebec coroner confirmed an investigation into the death of Youcef Moussaoui, 33, who died while in custody in Montreal awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges.
Moussaoui faced charges for the Sept. 22 death of Leila Ben Salem, 45, a Canada Revenue Agency employee killed while participating in a Zoom meeting from her downtown apartment.
Police arrested Moussaoui on Oct. 15 in the Ville-Marie borough; he was held at Bordeaux Prison until he reportedly died after an alleged suicide attempt on Oct. 22.
Coroner Andr Luc is leading the investigation; The Coroner's Office stated, "no further information will be released regarding the accused's death at this time," as the inquest remains confidential.
The legal case was scheduled to return to court next month, though Quebec officials and The Coroner declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
