Montanans Share Key Issues as They Turn in Election Ballots in Bozeman
More than 300,000 ballots have already been cast, and officials say Montana could set a new general election turnout record.
Ahead of Election Day, Gallatin County voters are hand-delivering absentee ballots at the Gallatin County Courthouse, where Gallatin County Election Administrator Eric Semerad is managing curbside drop-offs to support the final surge of participation.
As of Sunday night, the Montana Secretary of State's office reported that 56.6% of more than 530,000 absentee ballots sent out had been returned, positioning Montana to set a general election record if 50% of outstanding voters participate on Tuesday.
With well over 500 people assisting with election processes, Semerad is overseeing late registrations at the courthouse and Montana State University, expecting a volume similar to the under 1,000 recorded in 2024.
Priorities varied among voters, with Mckenna Manley citing "healthcare or lower costs" as priorities, while Aaron Hoffman noted environmental issues and Nicole Cowett sought candidates who "don't take corporate money."
With it now too late to mail in ballots, voters can still return absentee materials at any polling place or the Gallatin County Courthouse, as polls across the county open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 8 p.m.
