Millions to enjoy an extra-long four-day weekend in 2027 after bank holiday change
The Government says the changes will give many workers a four-day weekend at Christmas and another extended break at New Year.
The Government confirmed new four-day weekends for 2027 and 2028 due to bank holiday changes, providing residents with extended time off during key festive periods.
Because Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on the weekend in 2027, substitute days are required to ensure workers receive full holiday entitlement.
The full list for 2027 includes New Year on Friday, January 1, Good Friday on March 26, with substitute days for Christmas Day and Boxing Day scheduled for December 27 and 28.
For 2028, the calendar includes a three-day weekend with New Year falling on Saturday, followed by a confirmed substitute bank holiday on Monday, January 3.
The Government has not confirmed any extra bank holiday dates beyond those already scheduled, though the festive period will bring an extra two days off for many workers.
