Miley Cyrus Remembers 'Aunt' Dolly Parton After Her Death at 80
Cyrus said Parton mentored her through her early career and called her family after an Instagram tribute to the country star.
Music legend Dolly Parton died at 80, prompting goddaughter Miley Cyrus to share an emotional Instagram tribute describing their relationship as intimate and sacred.
Billy Ray Cyrus, a longtime collaborator, appointed Parton as Miley's godmother in 1992, and she later appeared as a recurring character on Disney's Hannah Montana.
The pair co-hosted a 2023 New Year's Eve program and performed together at the Grammy Awards, while Cyrus' rendition of Parton's 1973 song "Jolene" brought new energy to the classic.
Reflecting on their bond in 2020, Parton called herself Miley's "fairy godmother," and DNA-tracking later revealed the two were seventh cousins, once removed.
Committing to her godmother's memory, Cyrus plans to honor Parton through songwriting, stating, "Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong.
