Steelers DC Patrick Graham Moves Out of Booth, Calls Game From Sideline
Patrick Graham’s move to the sideline gave the Steelers quicker defensive communication and helped spark a 34-22 win, players said.
On Sunday, Oct. 11, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 34-22, with defensive coordinator Patrick Graham moving from the coach's booth to the sideline for the first time this season.
Head coach Mike McCarthy shifted Graham's location after defensive leaders Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt expressed visible frustration during a Week 4 loss in Cleveland, prompting the coaching adjustment.
Inside linebacker Patrick Queen called Graham's sideline presence "great," citing "the immediacy it created" for real-time adjustments and direct communication between coordinator and players.
Running back Jaylen Warren emerged as the primary offensive option, aided by wide receiver DK Metcalf clearing two defenders on a reception that marked the longest play by a Steelers running back in 80 years.
The victory pushed the Steelers to 3-2 ahead of Sunday's game in Tampa Bay, as McCarthy continues implementing a proactive coaching style distinct from his predecessor Mike Tomlin's approach.
