Mike Baird Resigns as Cricket Australia Chair, David Boon to Take over Interim Role
David Boon will serve as interim chair while Cricket Australia searches for a longer-term leader after the dispute over Big Bash League club sales.
On Monday, Cricket Australia Chair Mike Baird resigned after Cricket NSW withdrew support for his re-appointment, ending his three-year tenure leading the governing body.
Tensions surrounding Big Bash League privatization plans caused the rift, as Cricket NSW, chaired by John Knox, staunchly opposed private ownership despite Baird's push for the model.
Although Baird retained majority support from other states, NSW rejected his proposal to serve as an independent director, even as Cricket Australia reported a 40 per cent increase in participation this year.
Decorated former Test batsman David Boon will assume the interim CA chair role at next month's AGM, with a search for a permanent successor beginning immediately.
Baird's exit also triggers a reshuffle at the International Cricket Council, where he chaired the financial and commercial affairs committee, ahead of the board's November meeting in Bali.
