Indian Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing in Bangladesh; Patient Dies
Bangladeshi authorities assisted the air ambulance on humanitarian grounds after a mechanical fault opened the door mid-flight, officials said.
On Sunday, an Indian air ambulance, a Beechcraft King Air C90A, made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after a mid-air technical malfunction forced it to divert while flying from Agartala to Kolkata.
The aircraft, registered as VT-HYA, encountered a technical fault while climbing through 12,000 feet, causing the cabin door to open mid-air, according to the state-owned BSS news agency.
Seven people were on board, including 56-year-old patient Anjana Bhowmik, whom doctors at Kurmitola Multicare Specialised Hospital declared dead at 4:40 pm on Sunday, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
All other occupants remained safe, while the aircraft, operated by SKB Infracon Pvt Ltd, remains at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport awaiting clearance, Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Hasan Talukder confirmed.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka coordinated with Bangladeshi officials to complete diplomatic formalities, though whether Bhowmik's death was linked to the technical malfunction remains unclear.
