Microschools get little state oversight, even as numbers surge under Arkansas LEARNS Act | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Nova Roots Academy in Hot Springs, which shut down less than three weeks before fall classes were set to begin, charged tuition to attend. However, it was not a private school in the eyes of the state. The Arkansas Department of Education considered it a microschool — smaller than a private school and bigger than a homeschool, but not so much bigger than the students couldn't be considered "homeschoolers."
