Micron Unveils $10 Billion AI Memory Research Lab in Boise
Micron said the lab will focus on memory and compute research and aims to support future AI systems with university and industry partnerships.
On Thursday, Micron Technology announced plans to launch Micron Research Labs in Boise, Idaho, backed by a $10 billion investment over the next decade to drive memory and semiconductor technology breakthroughs.
Founded in a Boise dental office basement nearly 50 years ago, Micron has grown into a global memory technology leader anchoring the regional economy alongside Boise State University.
Micron Research Labs will build on the company's "62,000 lifetime patents" and convene academia, government, and industry experts to advance foundational research across memory and compute architectures.
Boise Mayor Lauren McLean stated the facility offers a "powerful opportunity for generations to come," enabling local students to pursue careers in research and advanced manufacturing without leaving home.
This initiative complements Micron's $250 billion investment plan through 2035 aimed at securing U.S. leadership in AI memory production; the company anticipates breaking ground on the flagship campus in 2027.
