Michigan Voter Guide: Everything you need to know ahead of the 2026 election

The guide covers registration, absentee ballot deadlines and early voting rules as Michigan prepares for 2026 races.

  • Michigan's 2026 General Election occurs Tuesday, Nov. 3, featuring federal and state races. Absentee ballots are available to all voters, with early in-person voting scheduled Oct. 24 through Nov. 1.
  • Following the 2022 passage of Proposal 2, Michigan mandates at least nine consecutive days of early in-person voting for at least eight hours daily leading up to the general election.
  • Voters can register online or by mail up to 14 days before the election, or in person at their city or township clerk's office through Election Day.
  • Absentee ballot requests are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, or 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, for in-person requests. Voters may return completed ballots via drop-boxes.
  • On Election Day, polls operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and voters must present identification. Those lacking valid ID may still vote by signing an affidavit.
