- Motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a bus displaying flashing red lights, regardless of whether the stop arm is extended. Violations carry a $500 fine, while incidents causing injury or death can result in felony charges.
- Urging drivers to put phones away, Mayfield stressed the human cost of distracted driving, saying "I don't want to come knocking on the door letting a parent know their child is not coming home."
