Met PC sacked for taunting and injuring homeless man in arrest
The misconduct panel found he used unnecessary force and degrading language, and the man needed hospital treatment after suffering a head injury.
On Friday, the Metropolitan Police dismissed officer Omer Farok for gross misconduct following an encounter with a homeless man in Parker Street, central London.
During the arrest, Farok pushed the homeless man into a brick wall, repeatedly called him an "idiot," and used force that was not necessary, reasonable, or proportionate.
Footage showed Farok manipulating handcuffs to cause pain while the detained man shouted, "My hands are behind my back." The man suffered a laceration that "left a pool of blood on the pavement."
Although a criminal trial cleared Farok of assault in November 2025, a misconduct panel dismissed him with immediate effect and placed him on the College barred list, preventing future employment in Policing.
Independent Office for Police Conduct director of engagement Amanda Rowe stated the conduct risks damaging public confidence, emphasizing that Police must exercise powers lawfully with self-control and dignity.
