Met Office Issues Yellow Ice Warning for All Northern Ireland Counties
Icy patches on untreated surfaces and freezing fog pose risks of slips, falls, and travel disruption, especially in western counties with temperatures dropping to -3°C, Met Office said.
- On Sunday at 7pm the Met Office issued a yellow ice warning for all six Northern Ireland counties until 9am on Monday.
- After Storm Chandra last week and January 2026 rainfall statistic of 64% more rain than normal, wet surfaces could freeze overnight, the Met Office senior operational meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said.
- The forecaster warned a 'small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater' could pose a 'danger to life' in all six counties, with temperatures falling to-3 degrees and freezing fog adding hazards.
- Motorists and pedestrians were warned to leave at least five minutes earlier, use treated pavements and roads, and check timetables to reduce slip and travel disruption risks.
- Forecast models indicate low pressure persists into next week, with rain warnings for the South West showing 10-20mm widely and 30-50mm over Dartmoor, the Met Office said.
