Melbourne-based AFL club rocked by alleged off-season drug incident
At least 3 players needed emergency care after an alleged recreational drug incident, and the club said two were admitted under separate circumstances.
On Sunday, the Carlton Football Club confirmed players Lachie Cowan and Will Hayward were admitted to hospital under "separate circumstances" following a Saturday night gathering.
Reports emerged earlier Sunday that several players required emergency medical care after allegedly using recreational drugs, prompting the club to address the situation publicly.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated a man in his 20s in South Yarra for upper body injuries, while Hayward received stitches for a head cut after a fall.
Both players have been discharged after receiving necessary care, and the Carlton Football Club remains in regular contact with them, prioritizing their wellbeing.
This incident occurs as the AFL implements a new Illicit Drugs Policy, which replaces the previous "three strikes" model to focus on health-based support.
