Even a football scandal involving bribery of players and referees did not prevent the residents of Karviná from re-electing the current mayor, Jan Wolf (Žijeme pro Karvinou). He received even more votes than four years ago, and his group will have 30 seats in the 41-member council.
In Karviná, the current mayor and leader of the winning group We Live for Karviná, Jan Wolf, won, despite facing charges in connection with a football corruption scandal. He has long denied guilt.
A few weeks ago, the police were frantically searching for him and he was only found on vacation in Croatia. Now, the outgoing mayor of Karviná, Jan Wolf, is on the rise. In the municipal elections, the movement he leads overwhelmingly defeated his opponents and won 30 out of 41 seats. It can therefore govern alone.
The Karviná association Žijeme pro Karvinou, led by the current mayor of the city, Jan Wolf, is experiencing a landslide election victory. After counting ninety percent of the precincts, the movement won 63 percent of the votes. They can comfortably govern alone. Wolf's corruption scandal in football, of which he is accused, has not affected the trust in his association.
