Mavericks new president says it is time to focus on Cooper Flagg
On Tuesday, new Dallas Mavericks President and Alternate Governor Masai Ujiri was formally introduced, immediately addressing head coach Jason Kidd's status by stating he plans to evaluate the franchise from "head to toe."
Kidd, who signed an extension two years ago, has overseen a 179-149 record over four seasons, though the Mavericks finished the 2025-2026 season with a 26-56 record and missed the playoffs.
Ujiri, the former Toronto Raptors executive, confirmed he spoke with Kidd but remained noncommittal about the coach's return, noting he must "follow the process" while evaluating the organization.
Patrick Dumont, who sat beside Ujiri at the introductory conference, expressed support for the new president's vision, stating, "I'm looking for Masai now to help lead us to a championship."
The team holds a 6.7% chance at the top pick in next week's draft lottery, as Ujiri emphasizes building the franchise around Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg.
