Massachusetts Woman Missing in Nepal After Catastrophic Flooding
Her husband and a family friend are searching hospitals and morgues as Nepal officials say more than 3,000 people remain missing.
Jyoti Rai, a Lexington woman on a spiritual pilgrimage for her 50th birthday, remains missing in Nepal after massive flash floods obliterated parts of the country; her family has not heard from her since she prepared to clear immigration.
Local officials report nearly 700 bodies recovered and more than 3,000 people missing across Nepal, while the hotel where Rai was staying was swept away by floodwaters.
Manmeet Singh Meet, Rai's closest friend of over 15 years, flew out of Logan Airport on Saturday to assist Sanjeev Rai in searching morgues and hospitals for her.
According to the State Department, at least 90 Americans were missing as of Friday; Manmeet Singh Meet stated, "If she is alive, keep her alive and give us the strength to bring her back."
Rai is a devoted mother of two and an engineer with Intel in Hudson; Singh Meet remains determined to find her, noting "everyone must be expecting a miracle" amid the ongoing search.
