Trooper Accused of Punching Boy in Face Suspended by POST Commission

Michael Gagnon was suspended without pay after being charged with domestic assault and aggravated assault on a child under 14, released on $1,000 bail, officials said.

  • On Nov. 25, Massachusetts State Police trooper Michael Gagnon was arrested in Plympton, arraigned on domestic assault and aggravated assault charges, and released on $1,000 bail posted Nov. 26.
  • The complaint says the incident occurred in late August or September and was reported on Nov. 24 to the Department of Children and Families, prompting an investigation by the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office and Plympton Police Department.
  • The criminal complaint alleges that Gagnon punched a child in the face and told the child to blame a whiffle ball bat; the victim later told a therapist and DCF caseworker about the alleged punch.
  • In response, the Massachusetts State Police relieved and suspended Gagnon without pay while removing his duty weapon and cruiser; the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission suspended his certification Tuesday.
  • His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026, and state payroll records show Gagnon earned more than $100,000 this year, including $95,442 base pay, $2,017 overtime, and $5,467 other pay.
