Manhunt for prisoner who escaped from van as police release image

Police say Temitope Segun assaulted a guard and escaped while being moved to prison, and officers are warning the public not to approach him.

  • On Monday, June 8, inmate Temitope Segun, aged 25, escaped a prison transport van in South East London after assaulting a guard while being transferred from Bromley Magistrates Court to HMP Thameside.
  • Private contractor Serco confirmed it was transporting the prisoner and said it was "investigating" the security breach, which left one staff member injured during the Plumstead incident.
  • Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning from the Met Police said, "My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun," urging public reports via 999 or Crimestoppers.
  • In a separate case, authorities mistakenly released rapist Bernadin Dedic, 48, from HMP Wormwood Scrubs in February after court officials wrongly told prison staff he had been granted bail.
  • On Tuesday, June 9, a jury at Isleworth Crown Court convicted Dedic on all nine counts in his absence after he fled to Bosnia, exposing vulnerabilities in custodial oversight across England.
