Man United Seals $95M Deal for Brighton’s Baleba Amid Midfield Upheaval, Reports Say
United will pay £65 million upfront and £5 million in add-ons as Baleba travels for a medical, reports said.
On Friday, Manchester United reached an agreement with Brighton to sign Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba for up to 70 million pounds . The 22-year-old bolsters the club's midfield ahead of the transfer window's closure.
United stepped up negotiations earlier this week to address midfield gaps following the departure of Casemiro and a serious knee injury to Manuel Ugarte. Manager Michael Carrick prioritized reinforcing the position before the window closes.
The transfer structure includes 65 million pounds paid up front plus 5 million pounds in potential add-ons. Brighton also negotiated a sell-on clause for the midfielder, who joined from Lille in 2023.
Baleba has received permission to travel to Manchester for a medical on Saturday. Currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury sustained in Austria, he will miss Brighton's Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Sunday.
This acquisition continues United's midfield rebuild following last month's signings of Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans and Chelsea's Andrey Santos. Baleba is expected to return to full fitness toward the end of September.
