Eric Lyn Holliday faces felony animal cruelty and drug charges for killing a 6-year-old pregnant Maltese by snapping its neck with a rope tied to his SUV, prosecutors said.
- On Dec. 1, surveillance captured the crime around 7:30 a.m. in the 600 block of South Brookhurst Street, and Eric Lyn Holliday, 58, Buena Park resident, was charged Wednesday with felony animal cruelty and drug possession.
- Earlier this year, Holliday pleaded guilty on Oct. 15 to vandalism and assault and was sentenced to 126 days, placed on two years of formal probation, and ordered to enroll in a substance-abuse program.
- Footage indicates he looped a rope around the small white dog, believed a 6-year-old pregnant Maltese, then tied it to a yellow parking bollard and the Ford Expedition’s tow hitch before accelerating, prosecutors say.
- He was arrested soon after with several baggies of methamphetamine, prosecutors say, and faces felony possession with prior convictions; Holliday pleaded not guilty Wednesday with a Dec. 11 pretrial hearing.
- With a sentencing enhancement for use of a deadly weapon, prosecutors said `only someone who is pure evil could engage in such conduct` and emphasized the public-safety threat, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer stated.
