Man killed in suspected gangland shooting just before family returns home
Police say the victim was known to them and had links to organised crime, while no arrests have been made in the manhunt.
On Thursday at 5:30pm, 42-year-old Ali Albadri was shot dead at his home on Gypsum Drive in Wollert, with police investigating the incident as a suspected targeted gangland execution.
Victoria Police Detective Acting Inspector Paul Scarlett said Albadri was known to police and had links to organized crime extending beyond Victoria; the attack follows the July 2025 shooting of underworld figure Athan Boursinos in the same suburb.
Footage shows two people dressed in black sprinting from Gypsum Drive to a sedan after startled passersby interrupted the armed offenders as they prepared to strike; a third figure emerged from nearby bushes.
Albadri's wife and children returned to the property soon after the shooting and were "absolutely distraught," Scarlett said, while the homicide squad launched a manhunt for suspects who remain at large.
Scarlett described the shooting as "abhorrent," saying it shook a close-knit community of young families seeking to feel safe in their homes; anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
