Man Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder of Three Children in Dublin City
Riad Bouchaker has pleaded not guilty as jurors hear the case may last up to five weeks.
On Monday, a jury of nine men and three women was sworn in at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin for the trial of Riad Bouchaker, who pleaded not guilty to eight charges.
Bouchaker allegedly attempted to murder three children and assaulted a care worker at Parnell Square East in Dublin City on November 23, 2023, using a 36cm kitchen knife.
Justice Tony Hunt ruled Bouchaker fit for trial but granted accommodations for his "acquired brain injury" and "attention deficits", noting proceedings require "more than ordinary patience".
Jurors were asked to remain "open minded and objective" throughout the trial, which is expected to last up to five weeks at the Dublin Central Criminal Court.
The attack occurred hours before rioting erupted in the Irish capital, while Justice Hunt stated the case will be a "lengthy and perhaps painstaking" process.
