- The Boeing 777-300ER plunged 178ft in under five seconds while cruising at 37,000ft over Myanmar after encountering a rapidly growing cloud, throwing Kitchen from his seat onto his wife, Linda.
- Linda Kitchen, 74, testified she felt a "huge drop or lunge" and "incredible pain" as the inquest heard 56 passengers suffered serious injuries and 23 sustained minor injuries.
- Seeking damages for injuries sustained during the incident, several passengers including Linda have launched legal action against Singapore Airlines, which previously apologized for the "traumatic experience" onboard.
- While the Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau found weather radar did not detect the turbulence, the coroner determined it directly precipitated Kitchen's death despite his prior history of coronary artery disease.
