- On Friday, July 17, a Vancouver man test-driving a Toyota sedan was clocked at 172 km/h by BC Highway Patrol on the Okanagan Connector near Elkhart, in a 110 km/h zone.
- The 30-year-old driver told the RCMP he was on an overnight test-drive from Vancouver to Kelowna, more than 300 kilometres from the dealership when stopped near Merritt.
- Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the driver received a $483 ticket for excessive speed and faces at least three years of high-risk insurance premiums.
- The Toyota was towed and impounded for seven days, with the Registered Owner responsible for all towing and impound costs, bringing the total financial impact to nearly $2,500.
- BC Highway Patrol stated it remains unknown whether the driver will purchase the vehicle, which successfully demonstrated its ability to speed and fit on a tow truck.
