Police said the 36-year-old suspect remains in custody as officers keep a cordon in place and appeal for information.
A 36-year-old man from Penzance remains in custody after his arrest on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in her 80s at a property in Ashton, near Helston.
Devon and Cornwall Police discovered the woman's body just after midnight on Friday, subsequently launching a murder investigation after notifying her next of kin.
Detective Inspector Pete Gee established a police cordon at the scene, with a heightened police presence expected to remain in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue.
Seeking to reassure local residents, Gee stated that incidents of this nature are very rare and encouraged anyone with concerns to approach officers directly.
