1 in Custody After Deadly Shooting in Port Colborne: Niagara Police
Detectives say the shooting appears isolated as homicide and forensic teams investigate the circumstances and the victim’s identity remains withheld.
A 31-year-old Niagara Falls man died after being shot Thursday evening at a residence on Fares Street in Port Colborne, prompting Niagara Regional Police Service officers to arrest 30-year-old Tyler Haas at the scene.
Officers and Niagara Emergency Medical Services responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. to find the victim suffering "an injury consistent with a gun shot," police said, though he was transported to hospital where he later died.
Haas has been charged with second-degree murder, though the exact motive remains under investigation; the home near Rodney Street is being secured for analysis by the Homicide Unit.
Police characterized the shooting as "an isolated incident" and confirmed the victim and accused knew each other, with authorities stating there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
