Mali accuses military officers of working with jihadis to carry out attacks against government
Investigators found soldiers joined the planning and execution of attacks that forced Malian and Russian forces to withdraw from key northern positions.
- The Military Court of Bamako prosecutor announced that investigations found "solid evidence regarding the complicity of certain military personnel" in recent attacks, alleging officers participated in "the planning, coordination, and execution" of assaults.
- Last Saturday, al-Qaeda-backed Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, or JNIM, and the Azawad Liberation Front, or FLA, partnered to target Bamako's main international airport and other towns in near-simultaneous attacks.
- Militants have attacked at least 10 locations, forcing Malian and Russian forces to withdraw from Kidal and Tessalit, where separatists confirmed capturing the strategic military camp after the army retreated.
- Malian military leader Assimi Goita vowed on Tuesday to continue aerial and ground offensives until armed groups are "completely neutralized" and security is restored throughout the country.
