PayNet Enables Malaysian Mobile Banking App Users to Make Overseas DuitNow QR Payments via Alipay+

The service lets Malaysian banking app users pay overseas merchants without a new app as PayNet says cross-border transactions rose nearly 150% in 2025.

  • Payments Network Malaysia launched outbound DuitNow QR payment connectivity, allowing Malaysians to use local banking apps at Alipay+ merchants in China, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea, the Philippines, and Laos.
  • This development extends PayNet's long-term roadmap for secure, interoperable payment connectivity, building on an existing partnership enabling Alipay+ wallet users to make DuitNow QR payments in Malaysia since November 2023.
  • Maybank, CIMB, and Hong Leong Bank are the first to support the service, with Bank Islam expected to join soon; PayNet recorded nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, up approximately 150 percent from 2024.
  • "This connectivity gives Malaysians an easier way to pay abroad," said PayNet Chief Executive Officer Praveen Rajan, adding that collaboration strengthens economic links and facilitates spending flow across borders.
  • PayNet will continue working with regional partners to expand access and add destinations, while DuitNow is already interoperable with domestic schemes in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia, facilitating seamless transactions.
