Apple's New iPad Mini Gets 8.5-Inch OLED, A20 Pro and Ray Tracing

On Monday, October 26, 2026, technology company Apple Inc. unveiled the redesigned iPad mini, featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display and the A20 Pro chip, with preorders beginning October 28 and availability starting November 6 at $699.
Featuring a 5.4 mm thin design, the tablet is the first iPad with an IP67 water and dust resistance rating and includes an 'Acoustic Display' that uses custom tweeters to eliminate speaker grilles.
The A20 Pro chip delivers up to 4.5x faster AI performance and 2.7x better graphics than the previous generation, according to Apple, supporting advanced tasks like on-device Apple Intelligence.
Consumers face a $200 price increase over the 2024 model, with education pricing starting at $649, an escalation reflecting industry trends like chip shortages amid the AI boom.
As the company prepares to announce further product updates this week, Apple expects the iPad mini to anchor its ecosystem, maintaining its position as the only pocketable device with flagship-level silicon.
