Warriors Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Calls Out Luka Doncic, Both on Court and After Huge Loss to Lakers
Lendeborg was whistled for a technical foul after trading insults with Doncic, who scored 28 points and hit a half-court buzzer-beater in the Lakers’ win.
During Wednesday's season opener, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic and Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg sparked a feisty rivalry, with the 24-year-old openly questioning the veteran's playing style throughout the loss.
Constant complaining to officials prompted Lendeborg to spar with Doncic, whom he criticized as engaging in "a lot of flopping, a lot of foul-baiting, a lot of praying to the refs, man."
Doncic punctuated the Lakers' 66-52 halftime lead with a 48-foot halfcourt heave, pointing at Lendeborg, while the rookie drew a technical foul for his unfiltered trash talk during the intense second quarter.
Warriors veteran Draymond Green defended Lendeborg's aggression afterward, while Doncic dismissed the confrontation: "I think everybody knows when somebody starts talking, you get a different me."
The teams meet again on October 30 in San Francisco, offering another opportunity for the rookie to test his defensive approach against the six-time All-Star in their budding rivalry.
