Lourdes Fasani’s Luli Series Celebrates Immigration, Cultural Heritage, and the Courage to Begin Again
Lourdes Fasani draws on her own immigrant childhood to help families and educators discuss empathy, acceptance and belonging.
On Thursday, September 10, 2026, Author Lourdes Fasani announced the Luli children's book series, featuring stories inspired by her own childhood as a young immigrant from Marianao, Cuba, discovering life in America.
After the Cuban Revolution, Fasani arrived in the United States, living in the Midwest for four years before moving to Southern California, where she graduated from the University and became a teacher.
Through Luli's adventures, the series explores meaningful childhood moments like entering a new school, experiencing winter, and celebrating Thanksgiving while encouraging children to honor their cultural traditions.
Influenced by her work in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Fasani created stories to help children "see the importance of kindness, family" and feel represented through authentic immigrant narratives.
The books offer families and educators an opportunity to discuss diversity and the immigrant experience, as Luli's stories highlight shared emotions to foster cross-cultural understanding and belonging.
