Los Angeles County on track to raise sales tax to 10.25%
Los Angeles County is set to raise its sales tax to 10.25% through Measure ER to temporarily fund the public healthcare safety net.
Measure ER, also called the Essential Healthcare Restoration Act, will last five years and aims to protect emergency rooms, public hospitals, and community clinics from federal healthcare funding cuts.
As of Thursday, 1,012,236 yes votes have been counted in favor of Measure ER, keeping it on track for passage.
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association opposes the tax increase, and Shelley criticized it as regressive, especially impacting low-income residents.
