London Robotaxis to Start Carrying Paying Passengers ‘in Next Couple of Months’
On Monday, Uber and British startup Wayve invited London users to join an interest list for the city's first robotaxi service, with launch expected in the coming months pending regulatory approval.
The companies, which announced their partnership last year, will deploy Ford Mustang Mach-E SUVs retrofitted with AI-powered sensors providing 360-degree visibility around each vehicle at all times.
Initial rides will feature a licensed operator behind the wheel, while Uber designed the in-car experience with interactive screens supporting 64 languages at no additional cost to passengers.
Kaity Fischer, who leads Wayve's robotaxi business, said the company is "ready to go," positioning the service to compete directly with Google-owned Waymo already testing in the capital.
The partners plan to work together in over 10 cities globally, though London's launch remains contingent on regulatory approval from the government's transportation department.
