London Jemison, Drew Fielder Power No. 20 Alabama to 96-74 Win over Sam Houston State
Alabama forced 23 turnovers and got 15 points each from London Jemison and Drew Fielder in a 22-point victory.
On Tuesday, No. 20 Alabama defeated Sam Houston State 96-74 in the season opener at Coleman Coliseum, with London Jemison and Drew Fielder each scoring 15 points for the Crimson Tide.
Defensive intensity defined the victory as Alabama forced 23 turnovers leading to 33 points, offsetting a 32 percent shooting performance from beyond the arc in the first half.
Freshman Tarris Bouie scored 13 points in his debut while fellow freshman Jaxon Richardson energized the crowd with highlight-reel dunks, and Alabama surged ahead with a 16-2 run out of halftime.
Despite the win, Alabama was out-rebounded 45-42, a focal point for coach Oats moving forward, while the team played without Aden Holloway, who is serving a five-game suspension following a March arrest.
The Crimson Tide will return to Coleman Coliseum on Friday to host Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m., while Sam Houston continues its season hosting Howard Payne on Saturday.
