LNER train attacker asked passenger ‘do you want to die?’ during rampage, court told
Williams admits harming four people before the train attack but denies 14 attempted murder counts after prosecutors said he stabbed 10 passengers.
On Wednesday, 33-year-old Anthony Williams appeared at Cambridge Crown Court via videolink and denied 14 counts of attempted murder related to stabbings on an LNER train last year.
Prosecutors allege Williams posed "a dangerous threat" throughout the Halloween weekend, stabbing four people in Peterborough and London in the 24 hours before the train attack.
During the Saturday evening service, Williams stabbed 10 people in a five-minute attack, with some passengers showing "extraordinary bravery" while grabbing frying pans to fend him off.
Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC told jurors the attack "brought terror" to the London-bound service, presenting CCTV footage of passengers fleeing or locking themselves in toilets.
While Williams admits intending to harm victims, he denies the attempted murder charges; the trial is expected to last six weeks at the Crown Court.
