Pogacar Holds Off Mas to Claim Vuelta Stage Six Victory
Pogacar earned his third stage win and now leads Enric Mas by 3 minutes 34 seconds overall, officials said.
- On Thursday, UAE Team Emirates rider Tadej Pogacar claimed victory in Stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espana in Castellon de la Plana, securing his third stage win of the race.
- The decisive action unfolded on the final climb of Puerto El Bartolo, where Pogacar attacked on gravel and distanced a 15-rider breakaway that had established a two-and-a-half minute gap.
- Recovering from an off-road excursion on the final descent, Pogacar outsprinted Movistar's Enric Mas, who had briefly overtaken him near the finish line.
- Following his win, Pogacar now leads Movistar's Mas by 3min 34sec and compatriot Primoz Roglic by 4min 21sec in the overall general classification.
- Earlier in the day, Netcompany Ineos rider Josh Tarling abandoned the race with around 120km remaining, after previously deciding to compete in honour of his brother Finlay Tarling, who died in the Tour of Portugal.
