Former Indonesian National Police Chief Among Three Arrested for the Alleged Illegal Wiretapping of Prabowo
On Tuesday, Indonesian police arrested three suspects, including former National Police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, for allegedly wiretapping President Prabowo Subianto and other senior officials.
National Police Criminal Investigation Agency chief Asep Safrudin stated the suspects allegedly used the National Police's Lawful Interception Management System for unauthorized wiretapping between 2025 and 2026, deleting records "to cover their tracks."
Police seized 11 mobile phones, one iPad, and four USB flash drives as evidence, with the three suspects facing charges carrying a total possible penalty of 24 years' imprisonment for illegal wiretapping and unauthorized access.
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated investigations have not found indications of an attempted government overthrow, adding "The purpose is still under investigation."
President Prabowo has been informed of the case and ordered law enforcement to take firm action, while officials plan to evaluate state institutions authorized to conduct wiretapping to ensure legal compliance.
