Sabres Return to Luukkonen in Goal After Back-to-Back Blowout Losses to Habs
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen returns after Buffalo was outscored 11-3 in two losses, as Lindy Ruff seeks a reset in the series.
On Tuesday, Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff named Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen the starter for Game 4 at the Bell Centre, replacing Alex Lyon as the Sabres trail the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in their best-of-seven series.
After being outscored 11-3 in two consecutive losses to Montreal, the Sabres made the goaltending change following Lyon's poor performance, allowing nine goals on 63 shots in his past two starts.
The NHL fined Buffalo forward Beck Malenstyn and Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj on Monday for Game 3 incidents, while Luke Schenn and Konsta Helenius appear set to enter the lineup for the Sabres.
Addressing the team's mindset, Ruff emphasized reset and confidence, stating, "We have to reset." Luukkonen added, "I'm just excited to go back there and help the team win."
Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis expects a difficult contest, cautioning, "We're expecting their best game of the series so far." The series shifts back to Buffalo on Thursday for Game 5.
