Life at Ashworth Hospital and Its Most Notorious Patients as Child Killer Ian Huntley Set to Move In
- Ian Huntley, 52, the Soham murderer, was attacked at HMP Frankland on 26 February and has been declared blind and not expected to regain consciousness while on life support in hospital.
- Suspected attacker Anthony Russell, 43, who was sentenced to a whole-life tariff in 2021 and handed a whole-life term in 2022, reportedly shouted he had carried out the assault at HMP Frankland.
- Huntley was placed in an induced coma after severe head injuries and given a five per cent survival chance, transferred by high-security ambulance with two prison officers and an armed guard.
- Officials confirmed there has been no overnight improvement, and Durham Constabulary said Huntley remains in serious condition and may be transferred to Ashworth Hospital.
- Following the assault, fellow inmates reported other high-profile inmates, including Wayne Couzens, are petrified, and Durham Constabulary detained a man in his mid-40s but has not charged anyone.
