Gelato Sold at Lidl Stores in Multiple States Recalled over Possible Listeria Contamination
No illnesses have been reported, and the recall covers only lot 085261 after routine testing found Listeria monocytogenes.
Lidl is recalling one lot of Gelatelli Coffee & Vanilla Gelato with Coffee Sauce & Cookie Pieces after routine lab testing detected Listeria, though no illnesses have been reported for the 1-pint containers sold between July 19 and Oct. 15.
To identify the recalled lot, customers should check the bottom of the tub for lot 085261, UPC 4 0564897 22458, and a 'best by' date of MAR/26/2028; the product was distributed across 10 states including Delaware, Georgia, and New York.
According to the FDA, Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems; symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Customers should discard the product or return it to any Lidl store for a full refund without a receipt; inquiries can be directed to the Lidl US Customer Care Hotline at 844-747-5435, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern.
Anyone who has eaten the recalled gelato should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks, as the incubation period for listeriosis can be as long as 70 days; those who develop fever or flu-like symptoms should seek medical treatment promptly.
