Smith scored on his first two touches and Sayin threw four touchdown passes as Ohio State built a 31-10 halftime lead.
On Oct. 10, the fifth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the visiting Maryland Terrapins 45-16 at Ohio Stadium, maintaining their 3-0 Big Ten record and improving to 5-1 overall.
Quarterback Julian Sayin threw four touchdown passes and finished with 242 passing yards, while receiver Jeremiah Smith scored twice during the first half to power the Buckeyes' explosive offense.
Running back Bo Jackson added 107 yards and two touchdowns, while Maryland linebacker Daniel Wingate intercepted a pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The win marked the 100th game at Ohio State for coach Ryan Day, who improved to 87-13 overall. Day acknowledged the team did not play up to their lofty standards.
Ohio State now prepares for a challenging stretch beginning with the Hoosiers before facing Southern California and Oregon. These games could define the Buckeyes' season as national playoff contenders.
