League scoring leader Sanchez has 2 goals in the Courage's 2-0 win over Angel City
Sanchez’s two goals lifted North Carolina to a 2-0 win and gave her 15 this season, the most in the National Women’s Soccer League.
On Wednesday, North Carolina Courage midfielder Ashley Sanchez scored twice in a 2-0 victory over Angel City, breaking the club's single-season scoring record.
The former UCLA All-American leads the NWSL in scoring this season with 15 goals, having tied Lynn Biyendolo's previous club record in the 41st minute.
Sanchez broke the record in the 78th minute after receiving a long ball from Courage goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, following an earlier assist from Evelyn Ijeh on the opening goal.
North Carolina defender Maycee Bell made her 50th NWSL appearance but was stretchered off early in the second half with an apparent arm injury.
The victory brings North Carolina's record to 11-3-7, continuing a five-game winning streak and ending Angel City's four-game draw streak.
