Leading Digital Wallet for Travelers and Expats, Moreta, Introduces Peer-to-Peer Transfers via Moreta Tags and QR Codes
The update lets users move funds directly inside the app, using wallet tags or QR scans, as the company expands beyond merchant payments.
On Monday, October 26, 2026, FinCEN-registered Money Services Business Moreta announced a peer-to-peer transfer feature for its mobile wallet. The tool lets users send funds directly using Moreta tags or QR code scans.
Travelers frequently requested ways to split bills or pay roommates without external apps. Sam Yu, Co-Founder and CTO of Moreta, said the feature lets users "close that gap directly" using a tag or QR code.
The update extends a wallet originally designed for merchant payments across Asia and Latin America, including Brazil, China, and South Korea. It adds a direct transfer layer, eliminating the need to convert currency twice.
Security for transfers includes AiPrise identity verification and 24/7 fraud monitoring, matching existing merchant payment standards. Moreta expects the feature to roll out by the end of next week.
Backed by Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch, Moreta is positioning its wallet as a comprehensive financial tool for expats and travelers. This shift moves the platform beyond merchant-focused payments toward a broader peer-to-peer ecosystem.
