- Fitzgerald's football journey began at age 14 as a Minnesota Vikings ball boy hired by coach Dennis Green, where he was mentored by Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Randy Moss before starring at the University of Pittsburgh.
- The 6-foot-3, 218-pound receiver recorded 1,432 receptions for 17,492 yards across 17 seasons, ranking second in NFL history behind Jerry Rice; he was selected to 11 Pro Bowls and earned three First Team All-Pro honors.
- His son Devin Fitzgerald, a Notre Dame receiver, presented him in a pre-recorded video and helped unveil his bronze bust; Fitzgerald honored his late father, Larry Sr., who died in June, and his mother, Carol, who died in 2003.
- Fitzgerald joined the Class of 2026 alongside Drew Brees, Roger Craig, Luke Kuechly, and Adam Vinatieri, becoming one of only 387 Hall of Famers among more than 30,000 men who have played in the NFL's 107-year history.
