Woman Arrested in South L.A. Hit-and-Run that Killed 16-Year-Old Boy
Police say the driver fled after striking two pedestrians, and the suspect was later booked on $3.255 million bail.
On Wednesday, police arrested 28-year-old Raygine Glentasia Evans in connection with a September 22 hit-and-run that killed 16-year-old Hernan Martinez and critically injured his sister, Vicky Martinez, in South Los Angeles.
Investigators allege Evans was driving a blue 2025 Nissan Sentra at 80 mph when she ran a stop sign at 60th Street and 10th Avenue, striking the siblings before fleeing the scene.
Detective Ryan Moreno of the LAPD's South Traffic Division said surveillance footage showed Evans on her cell phone while driving: "The sad part is, after this happened, instead of trying to stop and help and get aid they took off."
Booked into county jail, Evans remains held in lieu of $3.255 million bail on charges including murder, grand theft, and shoplifting, with nine prior citations for reckless driving and running stop signs.
Following the death, the city installed speed humps on 60th Street, while Earl Ofari Hutchinson of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable launched a campaign urging residents to identify drivers who flee fatal collisions.
