Two Weekends Left to Walk the Yellow Brick Road at Beech Mountain
Only two Autumn at Oz weekends remain as visitors walk the original Land of Oz grounds and Yellow Brick Road through Sept. 27.
With opening weekend concluded, the Autumn at Oz festival in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, has two weekends remaining: September 18-20 and September 25-27. Visitors have until the end of the month to walk the Yellow Brick Road.
A theme park that closed more than 40 years ago still draws crowds to Beech Mountain every September, tracing its roots to the Carolina Caribbean Corporation's 1970 development. The site remains a nostalgic fixture blending imagination with the Blue Ridge Mountains.
"There's simply nothing else quite like Autumn at Oz," said Armando Garcia, marketing and tourism director for the Town of Beech Mountain. The festival combines nostalgia and the beauty of the Blue Ridge into an experience guests cannot find elsewhere.
Organizers encourage attendees to book lodging on the mountain to fully explore the area, which reaches 5,506 feet. Visitors can enjoy the 7 miles of Emerald Outback trails and views across five surrounding states.
Once the festival concludes, Beech Mountain shifts into fall hiking and winter skiing until the Yellow Brick Road reopens next September. Early arrivals are recommended during weekends as traffic along access roads can back up.
