Lammy puts pressure on Israel over Gaza aid access
The UK commits £15 million to medical aid supporting over 600,000 Gazans through UK-Med and WHO Egypt while urging Israel to permit humanitarian access amid crisis.
On Monday, Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced £15 million more humanitarian support for Gaza, urging Israel to allow a surge in aid amid a reported 'man-made famine'.
An official told the Associated Press on Saturday Israel will reduce aid deliveries to northern Gaza as it prepares evacuations, prompting ministers and international partners to seek practical ways to unblock aid and address Israeli concerns about diversions.
Mr Lammy announced an extra £15 million for medical aid in Gaza, £3 million via UNFPA to support midwives assisting about 130 women daily, and funding for UK-Med and WHO Egypt, which treated over 600,000 Gazans.
Mr Lammy warned that extractions of critically ill and injured Gazan children to the UK rely entirely on Israeli government permissions, with first patients expected in the coming weeks.
Mr Lammy also condemned continued settlement approvals in the West Bank, citing recent construction in the E1 area east of Jerusalem, and said the UK works with France and Germany and regional partners to urge UN action.
