Lamine Yamal is healthy enough to play full matches for Spain in knockout rounds, De La Fuente says
Luis De La Fuente said the 18-year-old winger is fit enough for 90 minutes as Spain manages his recovery from a hamstring tear.
On Thursday, Spain faces Austria at SoFi Stadium in the World Cup round of 32, with coach Luis de la Fuente confirming star winger Lamine Yamal is fully recovered and fit to play full matches.
Following a hamstring tear on April 22, Spain's staff limited Yamal's minutes during group play to ensure his recovery was complete before the knockout stages.
De la Fuente emphasized that Yamal played only 141 minutes across three group matches, but the Barcelona winger is now cleared for full duty, stating "Lamine can now play whatever we ask of him."
In addition to Yamal, Yeremy Pino has made a "miraculous" recovery from his shoulder injury, though Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams remains sidelined with groin discomfort.
Austria coach Ralf Rangnick acknowledged Yamal's "immeasurable talent" but stated his team's job is to defend the Spain winger closely, aiming to limit his space and possession.
